Short-term Rehabilitation

Royal Park is proud of being recognized throughout the Pacific Northwest as a progressive and comprehensive leader in long term care with a focus on a strong rehabilitation unit. We provide rehabilitation to clients with a variety of diagnoses including stroke, general medical and surgical procedures, fractures, amputation, and joint replacement.

Our residents who have chosen Royal Park Care Center for their short-term rehabilitation needs are admitted to the Transitional Care Unit (TCU), which include such amenities as electric beds, cable television and phones. The TCU is in close proximity to the therapy gym and nurses' station, and has it's own dayroom with cable television, comfortable furniture, and a vending machine. There is also a wide variety of activities available to participate in 7 days a week, and church services are provided as well. There is a Care Conference scheduled within 14 days to discuss the plan of care and the discharge plan with the resident and resident's family. A Care Conference can also be requested at anytime if needed. A social worker works closely with the resident and resident's family in the discharge planning, assisting in arranging Home Health services if required. Social Services also assists with placement into an Assisted Living Facility or Adult Family Home if the resident is unable to return home.

Physical Therapy

The Physical Therapists at Royal Park Care Center are members of our health care team who work with doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals to ensure every resident is functioning at their highest physical level. Physical Therapy programs are developed to meet specific needs of patients who have lost some degree of functional independence as a result of injury or illness.

Physical Therapists help patients improve strength, balance, posture, mobility and walking skills. In addition to specific mobility training, Physical Therapists use:

  • therapeutic exercise
  • physical and chemical agents in the form of heat, cold and electricity to provide pain control and relief.

At our facility the Physical Therapy staff takes pride in providing home exercise programs and providing family caregiver instruction prior to discharge to a lesser care facility or to home.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy is used for individuals who are limited by physical injury or illness, psychosocial dysfunction, developmental or learning disabilities, or the aging process in order to maximize independence, prevent disability, and maintain health. A referral for Occupational Therapy is indicated for the elderly person with problems or diagnosis such as: arthritic condition, debilitating disease including cancer, heart disease, stroke, Parkinson's and fractures.

Occupational Therapy treatment might include:

  • Increasing joint mobility, muscle strength and coordination.
  • Increasing independence in activities of daily living and self care skills.
  • Cognitive assessment for critical life management skills such as money management and meal preparation.
  • Prescribing appropriate adaptive equipment to maintain or increase functional independence.
  • Home evaluation of patient's environment and providing recommendations.
  • Splinting and position device fabrication.

Speech Therapy

The Speech/Language Pathologists at Royal Park are members of our health care team specifically providing services for people who have strokes, head injury, swallowing impairments and communication disorders. These services provide skilled screening, identification, assessment, diagnosis, intervention and follow-up programs for our residents.

Dementia Care

The Evergreen Unit at Royal Park Care Center

Specializing in the care of Alzheimer's and related illnesses.

evergreen trees

The evergreen tree, besides being beautiful, symbolizes endurance, perseverance and strength. Having weathered all seasons and storms, it remains "Evergreen," standing tall and keeping the faith. Our unit staff looks at our residents as "Evergreens" and hopes to grow and learn from them to become strong "Evergreens" too.

The Evergreen Unit is a special-care unit exclusively for people with Alzheimer's and related disorders. Using available knowledge and a skilled staff, we have designed a program of care and treatment to meet their specific needs. Our staff of professionals have been carefully chosen for this special unit. They offer continual support and encouragement to both residents and families. Residents will relate to a minimum number of staff persons for their daily care. This adds recognition and consistency to help residents feel more secure. We tailor nutritional content and the meal schedule to individual needs in order to ensure optimum nutritional intake. A complete program of specialized activities is tailored to individual interests and abilities. Family involvement and support is an important part of the Evergreen Program. When a person in diagnosed as having Alzheimer's Disease, the whole family feels the effects. You will have the opportunity to take part in an activity program to gain strength and encouragement through sharing with others. We provide safety with dignity in an environment of love and care. Our unit is designed to ensure maximum freedom of movement within a secure environment.

Daring to hope is what family members, loved ones and health care givers do ... hope that Alzheimer's Disease will one day be eliminated ... and hope that until that day, units such as the Evergreen Unit can provide an environment that will allow residents to enjoy maximum freedom and maintain dignity with a safe and secure environment.
